Microblading vs Ombre Brows: Which Suits You?

If you've started looking into permanent brows, you've probably hit the same wall most people do: microblading, ombre, powder, combination, hyper-realistic. The names blur together, and every before-and-after photo looks good. This guide explains the two most-asked-about options, microblading and ombre brows, in plain language, so you can walk into a consultation knowing what to ask.

The short version

Microblading creates fine, hair-like strokes that copy the look of natural brow hairs. Ombre brows create a soft, shaded effect, lighter at the front of the brow and gradually deeper towards the tail, a bit like a well-applied brow powder. One looks like more brow hair. The other looks like brows that have been filled in. Neither is better. They suit different faces, skin and routines.

Microblading: for a natural, hair-stroke look

Microblading works by placing individual strokes into the skin, following the direction your brow hairs naturally grow. Done well, it's hard to tell where your real hairs stop and the strokes begin. It tends to appeal to people who:

  • have some brow hair already but want to fill gaps or sparse areas

  • prefer an 'I woke up like this' look over a made-up one

  • want to fix shape and symmetry without obvious colour

Skin type matters here. Fine strokes can look different on different skin, which is one reason we never recommend a technique without seeing your skin first.

Ombre brows: for soft definition

Ombre brows are built up with tiny dots of pigment to create shading rather than strokes. The front stays light and airy, and the colour builds gently towards the arch and tail. The result looks like softly filled brows. Ombre brows often suit people who:

  • already fill in their brows with pencil or powder most days and like that look

  • have very light or very sparse brows and want more visible definition

  • want a slightly more polished finish, even without makeup

What about hyper-realistic brows?

We also offer hyper-realistic brows, which focus on detailed, lifelike hair work. If you've seen a style online and aren't sure what it's called, bring the photo. It's much easier to talk about a picture than a name.

Five questions to ask yourself

  1. When I do my brows now, do I draw hairs or shade them in?

  2. How much natural brow hair do I have to work with?

  3. Do I want people to notice my brows, or just notice that I look fresher?

  4. Which brow photos do I keep saving, and what do they have in common?

  5. How much time am I happy to spend on brows each morning?

If most of your answers point to 'natural hairs', microblading is a good place to start the conversation. If they point to 'filled-in and defined', look at ombre. If you're torn, that's exactly what the consultation is for.

How a PMU consultation works at Guns and Inks

Our PMU specialists plan every brow around your features, skin and style. At the consultation we look at your face shape, your natural brow, your skin and the colour that will suit you, then map out the shape before anything is done. You see the plan and agree to it first. The aim is balance, brows that look like yours on a very good day, not a shape copied from someone else.

PMU at our studio starts from ₹10,000. The exact price depends on the treatment, and we'll confirm it with you at the consultation.

Aftercare matters as much as technique

Whichever technique you choose, the final result depends partly on healing. Brows usually look darker and sharper at first, then soften as they settle. We'll explain the aftercare in detail before you leave, and you can contact us if you have questions while they heal.

Lips too

If you're thinking about brows, you may also be curious about lip blush or dark lip neutralisation. We offer both, with the same consultation-led approach.

Book a consultation

We're in Kothaguda, Kondapur, opposite Sarath City Capital Mall and close to Gachibowli and Hitech City, open every day from 11am to 9pm. Book your PMU consultation online or call +91 8886886600, and bring a couple of brow photos you love.
